Elon Musk has warned Irish people that they could literally be arrested and imprisoned for having a meme on their phone if new hate speech laws are passed.
The new laws were introduced in response to the Dublin riots, with authorities keen to punish people who were angry over an Algerian migrant stabbing three children in broad daylight.
The law creates a new crime of inciting violence or hatred againsts persons by possessing material which offends the “protected characteristics” of an individual or group.
Musk responded to the controversy by posting on X, “Language being proposed as law in Ireland means this could literally happen to you for having a meme on your phone.”
The post was accompanied by a video of a SWAT team smashing down a door and invading someone’s house.
“People don’t realise how extreme Ireland’s hate speech bill is,” warned Robert Burke. “Up to 12 months in prison for refusing to give password to your devices if suspected of committing hate speech. 12 months for refusing to allow the State read messages between you and your spouse. It’s authoritarian.”
During a speech about a previous incarnation of the law, Ireland’s Green Party Senator O’Reilly asserted, “We are restricting freedom for the common good.”

As we highlighted yesterday, Irish authorities are now investigating posts on X by martial artist star Conor McGregor after the former UFC champion expressed anger over the stabbings and slammed Ireland being subsumed by mass migration.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar reacted to the stabbings and the riots by announcing new hate speech laws to target those who are irate about children being attacked outside primary schools in broad daylight.
It subsequently emerged that the Algerian migrant who stabbed the kids was subject to a deportation order 20 years ago yet remained in Ireland and was then given citizenship. He was also charged with possessing a knife in May this year but was never convicted.
Martial artist superstar Conor McGregor is also being investigated by Irish authorities for posts on X expressing anger at the stabbing and its link to mass migration.
