The meeting from earlier this month featured the pitch for a pilot program of “free hygienic sexual relief clinics, primarily serving the homeless and unhoused.” The speaker framed it as equality: private sexual relief through masturbation, or where appropriate and consensual, with a partner. Funded by tax dollars. Managed with professional oversight.
“It’s about allowing the homeless to have the same comforts and privacy as we have today,” the speaker claimed.

No one threw the speaker out. The council simply entertained it as public comment in a city already drowning in open-air drug markets, human waste, and medieval disease.
This is the logical endpoint of years of progressive governance that treats enabling street living as compassion while ordinary residents foot the bill and watch their neighborhoods collapse.
Los Angeles has poured massive resources into free tents, free food, free showers, free socks, free mental health outreach, free bus passes, free drug paraphernalia, and in some cases free drugs. What it has not done is demand sobriety, work, or an exit from the street.
The result is a permanent underclass whose public behavior—including public masturbation near schools and campuses—has become routine enough that the “solution” floated is simply to give them a dedicated space for it.
The same city that cannot keep sidewalks clear of tents or trash now hears proposals for state-subsidized sexual relief facilities.
Residents have documented the reality for years. Viral footage has repeatedly captured the scale of the encampments, the open drug use, and the human misery that progressive officials insist is a housing shortage rather than a policy failure.
Los Angeles has become a living case study in what happens when a major American city abandons basic order. Streets lined with tents, discarded needles, and feces. Parks turned into open-air markets for fentanyl and meth. Businesses and families pushed out while officials debate more “services.”
One earlier report captured the dystopian texture perfectly: a city where the everyday experience of walking outside feels closer to a failed state than the former entertainment capital of the world.
Even basic infrastructure has collapsed under the weight of the crisis. The city’s priorities are clear: manage the visible symptoms of street living rather than end it.
The public health consequences have been equally predictable. Flea-borne typhus, a disease associated with the Middle Ages, has returned with a vengeance. Los Angeles County recorded a record 220 cases in 2025, up from 187 the year before, with the vast majority requiring hospitalization.
Experts tie the surge directly to the conditions created by sprawling encampments: rats thriving on uncollected garbage, fleas jumping from rodents to people living in close proximity to filth. Hantavirus and other once-rare infections have also appeared.
The city’s own health data and internal documents show officials knew the environmental risks and still failed to reverse the policies that produced them.
Against this backdrop, the call for taxpayer-funded masturbation and hookup centers is a natural extension of a governing philosophy that refuses to impose standards. Free needles did not reduce drug use; they normalized it. Free tents did not end homelessness; they expanded the tent cities. Now the next “equity” demand is private space for sexual relief so the same population can continue living outside the norms that every functional society requires.
The city is already tens of millions in the red. Billions have been spent on homelessness programs with little to show beyond more people on the street and more disease. Progressive council members and the mayor’s office continue to treat enforcement as cruelty and permanent street living as an immutable fact.
The result is a feedback loop: more services that make street life sustainable, more people remaining on the street, more public disorder, more disease, and more demands for yet another specialized facility.
Ordinary Angelenos are left to navigate the consequences. Women walking near campuses have reported repeated encounters with men masturbating in public. Families avoid parks. Businesses close or relocate. The tax base that funds the entire apparatus shrinks while the client population grows.
The speaker who proposed the clinics used the language of social services and equality. That language has become the house dialect of the nonprofit-industrial complex that profits from managing failure rather than solving it.
Los Angeles did not arrive at this point by accident. It arrived through deliberate policy choices that prioritized ideology over results. Open borders and sanctuary rules funneled more people into an already broken system. Soft-on-crime approaches and restrictions on clearing encampments locked the dysfunction in place. Endless funding streams for “harm reduction” and “housing first” without accountability ensured the crisis would expand.
The proposal for sexual relief clinics is simply the latest symptom of a city that has lost the will to demand basic civilized behavior.
The same officials who entertain these ideas will continue to blame “systemic” forces rather than their own record. Residents who live with the daily reality already know better. A city that cannot keep rats and typhus under control, cannot clear its sidewalks, and cannot stop public lewdness is in no position to build anything.
