Trump DC Revival: Reflecting Pool Mirror Finish Will Also Save 16M GALLONS Of Water Per Year

Trump administration halts massive water waste under Democrats

President Trump’s push to restore Washington D.C. is producing undeniable results that expose years of prior neglect and bureaucratic failure. The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, long plagued by leaks wasting tens of millions of gallons annually, now features a watertight polyurea coating and mirror-like finish.

These visible wins are part of a broader effort to make D.C. safe and beautiful ahead of America’s 250th anniversary. While critics spin the work as superficial, the engineering reality and public reaction tell a different story: competent execution, massive resource savings, and renewed national pride.

The Reflecting Pool had been leaking massive amounts of water due to gaps in the concrete and failed prior repairs. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum laid out the facts plainly: “When we took this project over, it was leaking 45,000 gallons of water a day, 16 million gallons a year because the thing never worked. And they spent more money and it was closed for 2 years.”

Burgum further urged, “So everybody should be celebrating President Trump getting a project done in 1/10th the time — so 10x faster — at a fraction of the cost of the previous administration.”

On-site crews explained the technical solution in detail. The polyurea coating seals the concrete completely. One worker described the dark base color’s purpose: “The darker the base… With this dark color, you won’t be able to see through the reflection as much if at all really. You’re going to see that right there — the Lincoln… it’ll be a mirror finish.”

Another segment showed crews addressing the root cause — concrete gaps and expansion joints — by applying bond breaker tape and the thick, rubber-like polyurea material. This directly stops the massive daily water loss while creating the desired visual effect.

Leftist critics and media outlets had no engineering basis for their attacks, repeatedly claiming the dark “American flag blue” coating was ‘just paint’ and would make the pool resemble a country club swimming pool instead of a solemn memorial.

They offered partisan speculation rather than expertise. The crews’ hands-on confirmation proves the opposite: the dark finish enhances the mirror reflection of the Lincoln Memorial once filled.

This progress builds directly on earlier DC restoration successes.

The 1912 Columbus Circle fountain outside Union Station, non-functional since 2007, is now flowing again after structural repairs, marble cleaning, and updated water systems.

Another recent viral video captured a local woman’s reaction “This is CRAZY. I’m from this area. NEVER seen it like this! It’s so blue, it is bouncing off the white marble. I’ve NEVER seen the marble this CLEAN before. Oh my gosh. It smells and looks gorgeous. It’s so pretty. Breathtaking.”

The restored fountain and plaza now stand as a clean, dignified gateway — a stark contrast to the decay tolerated for years.

In addition, just weeks ago, Meridian Hill Park — also known as Malcolm X Park — stood as a graffiti-scarred reminder of neglect, overrun by vagrants, trash, and decay. Today, its iconic 13-basin cascading fountain flows powerfully once more, drawing families, dog walkers, and even those with blue hair who once might have sneered at such efforts.

Previous administrations allowed iconic sites to crumble while wasting resources and lecturing the public. Under Trump, leaks are stopped, water is conserved, marble gleams, and Americans are visibly moved by the results.

Decline was a choice. Restoration is delivering what the people deserve: functional, beautiful public spaces that reflect national pride rather than bureaucratic indifference.
