CALEB: “Life doesn’t have to suck. You can figure out good things you have.”
WOMAN: “Life doesn’t have to suck?!”
CALEB: “You have a boyfriend of 10 years. There’s many things.”
WOMAN: “And I love him, and that is the best part about my life.”
CALEB: “Were you gonna say that’s privilege — that life doesn’t have to suck?”
WOMAN: “Yes!”
CALEB: “How?”
WOMAN: “I have to worry about not waking up in the morning because I have seizures. And that means that I have to go to the hospital.”
CALEB: “How does that equal life always sucks though? … I don’t want to advocate for it, but if the entire philosophy is life sucks, why do life?”
WOMAN: “Because killing yourself sucks. That seems like a interesting way to ‘why don’t you kill yourself’ kind of thing.”
CALEB: “I again, I just said I don’t advocate for it, but if your entire philosophy is life is absolute shit, then why do it?”
WOMAN: “I don’t think it always has to suck, but when you’re in—”
CALEB: “That’s what I just said, and you said that was privilege.”
WOMAN: “It is, because you don’t have bad shit going on. You don’t have—”
CALEB: “We all have bad shit going on.”
WOMAN: “Okay, I’ll take that. But you don’t have addictions going on. You don’t have shit mentally or—”
CALEB: “Yes, I do. I have a panic disorder.”
[Woman starts getting flustered]WOMAN: “That’s what I’m saying. If you have medical shit going on, how can you be like, oh, life doesn’t need to ever suck?”
CALEB: “Life does suck sometime. There are shitty things in life, but life doesn’t have to — in general, as a broad philosophy — suck. Because then what’s the point of doing anything? What’s the point of waking up? What is the point of sacrificing if life is just trash? What’s the point of anything?”
WOMAN: “It’s a bad way to look at it. Life can suck, but you don’t have to, like, give up on it.”
CALEB: “So the only reason life sucks is because of this. If it wasn’t for this, life wouldn’t suck?”
WOMAN: “If it wasn’t for this, life would suck a lot less. Money and stress is what caused me to have seizures.”
CALEB: “Okay, then why were you never paying anything and still swiping?”
WOMAN: “I was told not to!”
CALEB: “Yes. Once you went to the debt consolidation — national debt relief — yes, but even before, you were still swiping, making it even worse and worse. So you were making what causes your seizures worse. On your own. No one forced you to. And you’re the one that makes a day out of all that stuff… You go shopping with a friend, then you go drinking, and then you go to the weed shop, and then back to the bar, and you smoke at the bar. You’re saying that life sucks — well, your coping mechanisms are all that bad shit that just makes life even worse and worse and worse. Those endless addictions that you’re just continuing make life suck more, and then you have to do them to continue. That’s you. That’s on you, dude. I’m not saying it’s easy to quit. No one is advocating that, but your continuing down the path of things that are bad makes life suck. Take some personal f*cking responsibility on anything!”
WOMAN: “That’s what I’m trying to do.”
CALEB: “You have seizures, but you just drink all day? You have seizures, but you smoke cigarettes. I don’t think cigarettes are good for people with seizures.”
WOMAN: “Well, they’re not good for anything, but my neurologist did not say it was going to cause me seizures!”
CALEB: “I don’t think it’s beneficial.”
