Former Vice President Kamala Harris has settled into an $8.15 million cliffside mansion in one of California’s whitest, most exclusive coastal enclaves.
Yes, the same political class that lectures Americans daily about equity, BLM, and “diversity” continues its long tradition of living as far from actual diversity as possible.
The twice-failed presidential candidate and her husband Doug Emhoff quietly acquired the roughly 4,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, six-bathroom property in Point Dume, Malibu, in late 2025.

The home sits on three-quarters of an acre with ocean views, wine fridges, a private putting green, a cold plunge, sauna, heated pool, and parking for five vehicles.
It is a gated retreat (borders work!) in a celebrity-packed neighborhood long favored by the likes of Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Julia Roberts, Sergey Brin and others seeking privacy and distance from the chaos they often champion elsewhere.
Point Dume falls entirely within Census tract 8004.08. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2019 American Community Survey, that tract is roughly 94 percent White and just 0.2 percent Black. Malibu as a whole remains overwhelmingly non-Black. Harris’s choice stands in stark contrast to the rhetoric that defined much of her career.

In a 2019 Washington Post interview reflecting on her time at Howard University, Harris said: “When you’re at (a historically Black college or university), and especially one with the size and with the history of Howard University — and also in the context of also being in D.C., which was known forever as being ‘Chocolate City’ — it just becomes about you understanding that there is a whole world of people who are like you.”
She added: “It was more, for me, about the numerosity than it was the diversity, I grew up in a community where there were many representations of diversity. Going to Howard, there were so many (Black people)! And they’re all in your age group, in your phase of life.”
As California attorney general she joined a Supreme Court brief supporting “disparate impact” enforcement of the Fair Housing Act. As a presidential candidate she floated $100 billion for historically redlined communities. As vice president she pushed efforts against racial bias in home appraisals.
Yet when it came time to plant roots after leaving office, she chose a secluded, oceanfront pocket with virtually no Black residents—while taxpayers continue footing the bill for her security detail drawn from local and state law enforcement.
Democrats have grown irritated by her retreat. One consultant described her limited footprint as “Kamala’s Los Angeles.” The Los Angeles Police Protective League board of directors said: “Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate who also happens to be a multi-millionaire, with multiple homes and who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts.”
Neighbors in Point Dume largely view the move as a downshift rather than a launchpad. Listing agent Or Brodsky remarked: “People usually come to Point Dume to try to downshift. I think she’s planning to have more days with her feet in the sand.”
This pattern is nothing new among the loudest voices on racial equity. Barack and Michelle Obama purchased an $11.75 million estate on nearly 30 acres in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard—an island that has been described as roughly 89 percent White and one of the whitest places in America.
Their longtime Washington home sits in Kalorama, a neighborhood where Whites make up around 77 percent of residents and Blacks closer to 3.5 percent according to neighborhood data, far from the citywide balance.
Michelle Obama has spoken of “White flight” in her own childhood and scolded White Americans for “still running,” yet the family chose elite, low-diversity enclaves for both permanent residence and vacation.
The same dynamic repeats across Hollywood, media, and Democratic donor circles: preach open borders and forced integration for everyone else, then buy the gated view with the lowest possible percentage of the people they claim to champion.
Despite all of this, recent reports and positioning continue to circulate that Harris is preparing another presidential run in 2028. She has floated major structural changes—Electoral College reform, Supreme Court expansion, statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.—the kind of agenda items that keep a failed candidate in the conversation.
This comes even as her standing with Democrats has deteriorated further. CNN’s Harry Enten noted in 2025 that her net favorability had worsened, saying: “Since the general election, among the general electorate, she is not well liked at this particular point. The American people, they don’t want this. They don’t want her.”
He added that she was “37 points underwater with independents” and that “Kamala Harris ain’t doing that” which Democratic voters appear to want, pointing instead to figures like Gavin Newsom.
The mansion purchase only sharpens the picture. A politician who built a brand on racial grievance and institutional “equity” now enjoys the quiet of a 94-percent-White coastal fortress while the policies she advanced helped flood cities with the very disorder that makes such fortresses attractive.
The left’s elite have perfected this two-tier existence: diversity as a slogan for the public, homogeneity as a lifestyle preference for themselves. Harris’s Malibu move is simply the latest, most expensive reminder.
If she does run again, the contrast between the lectures and the living arrangements will be impossible to ignore. America has already seen the results of that brand of politics. Another round would only underline how little of it was ever meant for the people delivering the sermons.
