A video of a girl reacting to receiving a pair of Billie Eilish Nike shoes by crying tears of joy and almost collapsing has people making comparisons to the ‘consoomer’ meme.
The clip shows the girl unwrapping her gift while seemingly having heart palpitations and reacting with bizarre, exasperated movements.
The box contains an item of clothing and a pair of Billie Eilish-branded Nike Air Force 1 Mushroom shoes that retail on the pop star’s website for $170.
Onlookers scream with delight as one man exclaims, “you’re making me dizzy!” while the girl theatrically collapses and grabs on to the table in front of her.
“Okay, don’t fall!” says another one of the onlookers as the girl looks like she is having some form of happy consumer breakdown.
The clip reminded some of the 2019 consoomer meme, which poked fun at hyper-capitalism and the hysterical overreaction some people have to corporate franchises and products.
“This feels wrong on every level,” responded one X user.
“This is the most dramatic reaction to receiving the ugliest beige space boots I’ve ever seen,” remarked another.
“Materialism/consoomerism has destroyed us. So much validation coming from getting an object,” mused another.
