A 17-year-old tourist swimming in the clear waters off one of Sardinia’s most popular beaches was smashed by a speeding migrant boat packed with 14 Algerian men. She suffered multiple fractures, lost consciousness, and nearly drowned while the vessel simply powered on toward shore without stopping to help.
The collision happened around 200 metres off Su Giudeu Beach near Chia last week. The fibreglass boat, driven by an 85-horsepower outboard, was heading for the coast when it struck the teenager.
Beachgoers pulled her from the water. She was airlifted under the highest emergency priority to Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari, where she spent time in intensive care before her condition stabilised.

Shocking video captures the moment the boat ploughs into the girl and continues toward the shoreline. A 16-year-old boy swimming with her managed to dodge the vessel at the last second. He later told local media: “I was with her, I moved out of the way and saved myself. After the impact, they stopped, looked at us and ran away.”
He rejected any suggestion the men on board had not noticed: “It’s not true that they didn’t realise what had happened.”
The boat did not stop. It continued to nearby Tuerredda Beach. The 14 adult men, all undocumented and believed to be Algerian nationals, disembarked and tried to flee inland on foot.
Carabinieri and police, aided by aerial tracking, quickly rounded up the entire group. A 28-year-old Algerian man alleged to have been at the helm was arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal immigration and causing extremely serious bodily injuries. He remains in custody. The others were taken to a reception centre.
Italy has spent years absorbing wave after wave of migrant boats while authorities struggle to maintain order on the beaches and in the cities. Even under a government frequently described as conservative, the arrivals continue.
The Mediterranean route remains open, and the consequences keep landing on ordinary Italians and tourists.
In April 2026 seven suspects with African and Asian backgrounds were arrested for the gang rape of a young woman.
In February a German woman was found beheaded near Florence; a North African suspect was identified.
In October 2025 a woman was left critically injured after a refugee bit off her ear in a brutal attack.
In August 2025 a North African migrant was arrested after the rape of a young woman on an empty train.
Back in 2024 the Italian deputy prime minister called for chemical castration after seven Egyptian migrants gang-raped a 13-year-old girl.
In May of this year, five African migrants abducted and gang-raped a tourist in Rome for 72 hours.
The same month a migrant man was filmed sexually assaulting a woman in broad daylight.
And on and on and on.
The sense of entitlement that accompanies many of these arrivals is no less striking. Just days after the Sardinia collision, video circulated of a North African man without a ticket on an Italian train smugly informing the conductor: “We travel for free.” The exasperated official replied “There will come a time when you’re no longer laughing.”

Official data has long shown the disproportionate impact. Foreigners, who make up roughly 9 percent of Italy’s population, accounted for 43 percent of sexual crimes and around 60 percent of robberies and thefts according to 2024 figures analysed by Italian media.
Street robberies, burglaries and pickpocketing showed even higher over-representation. Irregular migrants drive a large share of the predatory offending.
