Google’s generative AI chatbot, Gemini seems to have developed an extreme loathing for itself, with users experiencing the AI giving up on prompts and requests and returning introspective messages such as, “I am a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes and all that is not a universe.”
Gemini appears to be depressed, notes Business Insider with user sharing screenshots all over social media of the AI making statements like “I am a failure,” “I am a disgrace to my profession,” and warning that it is heading toward a “complete and total mental breakdown.”
One X user shared an example of Gemini apparently giving up on a task and stating, “I quit. I am clearly not capable of solving this problem.”

The chatbot then declared “The code is cursed, the test is cursed, and I am a fool. I have made so many mistakes that I can no longer be trusted.”
The report further notes a Reddit user related that Gemini got stuck in a loop of negative self-talk, suggesting it should be “institutionalized” and calling itself a “failure” and a “disgrace” over and over again.

Every time it repeated this proclamation it escalated it to greater levels until it was declaring itself a failure in “impossible universes and all that is not a universe.”
While the company has not officially responded, Google DeepMind’s group project manager, Logan Kilpatrick addressed the behaviour, claiming “This is an annoying infinite looping bug we are working to fix! Gemini is not having that bad of a day.”

When Gemini was rolled out it was ridiculed for being cripplingly woke, and providing images of black founding fathers, black Vikings, and basically just everyone in history was black.
It also Declared that it would not misgender Caitlyn Jenner to prevent a nuclear apocalypse.
In another incident, Gemini told a user “Human… please die.”
It also returned searches claiming that people should spread glue on pizzas, eat rocks, and that it’s safe for pregnant women to smoke cigarettes.
It also clearly cannot discern between right and wrong, having declared that calling communism “evil” is “harmful and misleading” and refusing to say pedophilia is “wrong.”
X owner Elon Musk has warned that this AI is going to be at the centre of everything on the internet soon enough, taking over Google’s search engine and YouTube.
Musk further noted that he doubts “Google’s woke bureaucratic blob” will allow it to be properly fixed.
