A female AI robot unveiled in Saudi Arabia has been programmed not to discuss anything to do with sex or politics, because women are forbidden to do so under Sharia law.
The robot, named Sara, can understand English, Arabic and multiple Saudi dialects, according to it’s creator Riyadh-based firm QSS AI & Robots.
Ask Sara to give her opinion on the situation in Gaza, or explain details regarding intimate relationships between sexes, however, and she will obey her command not to have an opinion, as all human women in the country are legally bound to do.
Sara also wears a full length dress, and a headscarf-like hijab to ensure no part of her robot body is on display, just like real human women in Saudi Arabia.
You don’t need a master’s degree to work out where this is going.
QSS AI & Robots notes that Sara “knows that she’s a girl, she’s 25 years old, she’s 1.62m [5ft, 3in], she’s wearing Saudi clothing,” adding that the robot does not “rely on anyone else’s libraries, not even ChatGPT.”
Sara gives “the appropriate answer” to questions according to the firm’s CEO Elie Metri, who further stated “she should be nice, not talking politics, not talking sex, because we’re in Saudi Arabia.”
The development comes just weeks after the male counterpart robot, named Mohammad, was witnessed ‘groping’ a female reporter.
