Doctor Who Race Swaps ‘Toymaker’ Character to White Man So They Can Make Him Racist

Rare case where race swap actually lands white actor a role.

Doctor Who changed the ethnicity of the Toymaker character from Asian to a white German man so they could make him racist, according to the show’s head writer.

The third and final episode of the 60th anniversary Doctor Who specials was broadcast last night on BBC One.

However, the Toymaker character, who was originally East Asian/Chinese in his original incarnation, was turned into a white German man.

This was done so that the character could act racist, according to head writer Russell T Davies.

“Today we live in a diverse society where cultural appropriation is not acceptable, so the 2023 Toymaker is a white character portrayed by a white actor,” states a voiceover explaining the change.

“However, as a way of signaling his pure evil and in acknowledgement of his past, Russell’s toymaker still has a clear and deliberate racist aspect.”

Davies explained that “people would say in 1966 this was a racist character and if we haven’t acknowledged that in some way, we’re ignorant.”

In order to avoid “whitewashing” the character, in the new episode he imitates foreign accents and mainly speaks in a German accent (presumably Germans who might be upset at this act of cultural appropriation don’t count).

In one scene, the Toymaker addresses a brown man by saying, “I do apologize for the rain outside, you must be used to sunnier climes.”

The brown man responds by saying, “I was born in Cheltenham” (a town in England).

The original character wasn’t even racist but decades later people complained that choosing a white actor to play him was “yellowface” racism.

Ironically, this is one of the very rare examples where race swapping characters actually ends up with a white person getting the role, but only to ensure the character could be portrayed as racist.

Presumably, hiring a Chinese actor to portray a racist would have led to accusations of racism.

Incredible.

The race swap takes on an added irony given that in the previous episode, Sir Isaac Newton, a white English man born in 1642, was played by an actor with Indian heritage.

As we previously highlighted, all three of the new Doctor Who anniversary specials have pushed some incarnation of “the message”.

In the first episode, David Tennant’s character was scolded for assuming an alien’s pronouns by a transgender character.

In another clip, the Doctor is browbeaten once again for being a “male-presenting timelord” and not understanding in the same way that female Doctors would.

In the second episode, it was heavily implied that Doctor Who is actually gay.

They really went all out with the social engineering.

  1. Just some advice, turn view counter off because it gives ‘there are literally dozens of us’ energy and its painfully embarrassing to see. At this rate, most the views on this website could just be people being nosy wondering what it actually is. Change the name because it just radiates MODERN EXTREME ENERGY. Ooooh you’re very edgy.

    1. I think you’d be shocked to discover that mainstream news outlets scarcely attract more than a few hundred clicks on their articles. Believe it or not, most people don’t actually care to read the opinions of a bunch of overpaid journalists. At least nuMedia sites like this don’t hide their biases or pretend like they’re speaking authoritatively or that they have the objective moral highground. I can’t remember the last time I bothered reading an MSM article, but I do remember that I was moralized to, I rolled my eyes, I closed the page and decided not to give them any more money from me clicking their shitty ragebait headlines. Now I’m here, and so are you. Amazing how that all pans out, isn’t it?

  2. The brown man says “I was born in Cheltenham” (a town in England).

Yes brown man, but where were the countless generations of your ancestors born?

It is not England that’s for sure lol.
