The chief correspondent of a major German newspaper set a bleak tone in relation to the war in Ukraine, asking, “Has Kyiv already lost?”
The article was written by Sascha Lehnartz and published by Germany’s Die Welt newspaper, the most popular publication in the country.
“Winter is just around the corner. The counteroffensive seems to have failed. The allies are weary. And since the beginning of November at the latest, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has a new opponent who was not necessarily to be expected: his own commander-in-chief, Valery Zaluzhny,” states the piece.
Lehnartz notes that there is a virtual “stalemate” at the front, a reference to Ukraine’s top general, Valery Zaluzhny, asserting that “it would take miracle weapons to defeat the Russians.”
The newspaper highlights growing tensions between the military and the Ukraine government.
“The dispute between the president and the top military officer shows that the unified home front in Ukraine is crumbling,” writes Lehnartz. “And every doubt expressed in Kyiv about Ukraine’s prospects of success is being reinforced in the corridors of European and American government headquarters.”
Last month, CNN reported on a Time article which quoted a top Zelensky aide as saying, “He deludes himself. We’re out of options. We’re not winning.”
Nobody really talks about the Ukraine in any great depth anymore, other than to express disillusionment about the way it’s heading.
It appears the “current thing” has very much dropped off the map.
A recent video showing Ukraine troops being “entertained” was very revealing since most of them look almost middle aged and completely downtrodden.
The increasingly use of child soldiers isn’t the best sign either.
