A 26-year-old migrant from Gambia has been arrested in Spain after allegedly trying to kill a National Police sub-inspector with a kitchen knife while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during a callout to a home in the Valencian town of Xirivella.
The attack took place at around 9:30 a.m. on May 26, when officers were called to an apartment following a request for help from another Gambian man who lived there. According to reports from OKdiario and El Debate, the caller told police that his roommate had been smoking marijuana and playing Islamic prayers and Quranic recitations at high volume, and had shut himself inside his room.

When officers arrived, they tried to calm the situation and asked the man to leave the property and go outside. Instead, he is reported to have grabbed a large kitchen knife from his room and lunged at a National Police sub-inspector, aiming for his neck.
The officer managed to avoid the strike to the neck, but the suspect stabbed him in the shoulder. The protective vest worn by the sub-inspector prevented the blow from causing a much more serious injury.
During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” and repeatedly told officers, “Sacrifice me.” Police called for reinforcements as the situation escalated.
Two other police officers were also injured while trying to disarm and restrain the suspect. Before he was subdued, the man allegedly attempted to jump from a window in the apartment.
The 26-year-old was arrested and is now facing charges of attempted murder and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
According to Las Provincias, the suspect had no prior record of violent offenses in Spain.
