Just hours after demanding President Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment (along with several former MAGA influencers) and labeling his Iran rhetoric a “moral crime” and “war crime,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) flipped and claimed Trump had backed down like a coward following the ceasefire announcement.
The shift unfolded rapidly on Tuesday as tensions over potential strikes on Iranian infrastructure eased following Trump’s agreement to suspend attacks, conditional on Iran allowing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a morning post on X, Khanna stated: “If the United States Congress has any life left in it, every member of Congress and Senator must be calling for Trump’s removal today based on the 25 Amendment. He’s threatening the entire destruction of a civilization. He is calling Iranians animals. This shows a TOTAL disregard for the humanity of people in Iran, in Gaza, in Cuba. This is a moral crime, it is a war crime!”

Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna called for invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump this morning, claiming he was a “war criminal” threatening to destroy “the entire Iranian civilization.”

By evening, with the ceasefire in place, Khanna changed tone. “As a human being and as an American citizen, I am relieved that Donald Trump has accepted a ceasefire,” he said.
He continued: “But let’s be clear, this did not happen because of Congress, which barely made a whimper. This happened because of the force of the American people. Not just progressives and liberals, but conservatives like Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene and even Ann Coulter spoke out against the horror of threatening genocide against another people.”
Khanna claimed in follow-up remarks that Trump had “backed down.”

Fox News’ Jesse Watters also highlighted How Democrats only seem to care about infrastructure being targeted in war when it’s Trump threatening to do it.

Trump detailed the ceasefire deal on Truth Social: “subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!”
He explained the reasoning: “The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East.” Trump described Iran’s proposal as providing “a workable basis on which to negotiate.”
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has outlined that sections of the media are spreading a fake 10-point plan that Trump has rejected.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council accepted the two-week ceasefire, with negotiations scheduled to begin in Islamabad. Tehran indicated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz could resume during this period if coordinated properly with Iranian forces. Israel signaled support for pausing strikes on Iran, while its operations against Hezbollah continue separately.
The development followed a period of heightened warnings. Media narratives the day before amplified fears of imminent escalation, with some outlets suggesting Trump was on the verge of nuclear-level confrontation.
Military officials later confirmed U.S. forces remain prepared to resume operations if the ceasefire terms are not upheld.
Global markets responded positively to the de-escalation, with oil prices dropping and stocks rising as fears over disruption to the critical Strait of Hormuz eased.
Whether the temporary pause leads to a longer-term agreement on peace in the region remains uncertain. Negotiations in the coming days will test if the two-week window produces lasting results or simply delays further confrontation. For the moment, the immediate prospect of expanded strikes has receded, providing space for diplomacy.
