A 43-year-old man was stabbed in the back on Tuesday afternoon in Vienna’s Donaustadt district after asking a group of migrant teenagers to turn down their loud music on the subway, according to Austrian police.
As reported by Exxpress, the attackers, aged between 13 and 18 and of Syrian and Iraqi citizenship, allegedly harassed, spat on, and physically assaulted the man before one of them stabbed him with a knife.
The victim was treated by emergency services and taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police say the attack occurred after the man asked the group to lower the volume of a loudspeaker they were using on public transport. After following him off the train, the youths are said to have insulted him, beaten him in front of Wangari Maathai Square station, and then fled toward Seepark.
Police quickly launched a manhunt and apprehended the six suspects near Lake Aspern. A folding knife hidden inside a cigarette pack was discovered at the scene and seized as evidence.
All six suspects were reported on suspicion of serious bodily harm. The group initially gave conflicting statements, but ultimately claimed that the stabbing had been committed by the youngest member — a 13-year-old. Authorities noted that the older suspects are already known to police for a range of offenses, including assault and property crimes.
The 13-year-old was handed over to a legal guardian at a youth facility, while the others were released but remain under investigation.

In 1978 I rode the 49 Muni bus in San Francisco from Market St. to Fort Mason on the Bay where I worked. That just so happened to be the “school bus” ridden by the Galileo HS students. The group of black kids who rode this line were loud, rude, obnoxious, and played their boomboxes at ‘11’. They shoved by old Asian women and screamed obscenities at anyone who dared ask them to stop behaving like animals.
But animals they were. They were obviously raised by angry, bitter, single black mothers in the Mission who had no prospects other than a welfare check. No, this was not normal ‘kid behavior’ … it was utterly out of control. I suppose they all carry (and use) knives today. I was lucky … they felt free to behave badly, but not free-enough to go all stabby and whatnot … that I witnessed.
No. I don’t ride ANY mass transit in the Bay Area … ever. It’s overrun by thugs who never pay the fare. Not BART, not Muni, Not AC Transit. Nothing. It’s an uncivilized free for all.
