Trump Terminates California’s 2035 Ban On Gas-Powered Cars In EV Mandate Reversal

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has vowed to fight the decision…

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that he’s signing a trio of resolutions reversing California’s 2035 ban on the sale of new gas-powered cars.

The move was announced earlier in the week by Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), who wrote on X that Trump would sign his resolution “to reverse California’s absurd ban on gas-powered cars.”

The resolutions, which were co-authored by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), finalize Trump’s months-long effort to rescind California’s authority to sect stricter electrification rules for passenger vehicles and commercial trucks, along with higher standards for heavy-duty diesel engines.

During Trump’s first term, his EPA revoked a version of California’s vehicle emissions rules through an 18-month regulatory process, however Republicans’ May vote to expedite the rollback through Congress marked the first time that California’s waiver approvals have been considered subject to the Congressional Review Act (CRA) since President Bill Clinton signed the law in 1996.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has vowed to fight the decision, saying in May that he plans to sue once Trump signs the resolutions.

We’re guessing Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is secretly relieved…

  1. My son (UK) recently hired an electric van (it was the only thing available). In a diesel, he could have made the 480 mile trip in 10 hours. The EV took over 24 hours and cost twice as much. This was primarily due to lack of chargers (some on the app not even existing) and some places charging parking fees in addition to the exorbitant electricity prices – of course, we have multiple, incompatible companies all with obscene prices and the 45-60 minute ‘fast’ charges. Then there’s range anxiety – this particular EV was quoted as 160 miles, but struggled to get 100 miles even when driving like a nun and keeping the AC off. He couldn’t wait to get back in his 23 year old petrol BMW.

I’m not sure about the US, but my understanding is you drive a heck of a lot more than we do. So, I can only imagine just how completely pointless EVs are for you.

    1. Your son’s first mistake is not living in a 15 min. city … where ALL his worldly needs are within 15 min. of his high rise cubicle. Only far-right loons feel the need to drive 480 mi. or 275 km or whatever the metric equivalent … because right-thinking people have adopted the metric system, or something

His ev van would have easily made the 30 min. round trip. As an example, all the good liberal trophy wives can easily make the 5 min. trip to the local Safeway and boutique nail salons … in their Tesla SUV’s … and easily make it back to their gated community here in my beautiful CA suburb. Only her poor gardeners and inside “help” need gasoline automobiles to commute back to San Bernardino

  2. Funny how Gavin Newsom reminds Canadians so much of Justin Trudeau. Both have their heads screwed on too far to the left. The current new P.M. of Canada “Carney” is also of the Liberal Party and following in Trudeau’s footsteps.

  3. Trump’s EO is only good until Jan 2029 unless the GOP is re-elected.. If Democrats win in 2028, they’ll simply cancel it.

  4. The California standards would set backdoor standards in all the other states. California is full of stupid people. Why should I forced to do the same stupid things stupid people are doing? That’s the same as mandating a Tik Tok challenge to everyone in the country.
