Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal said Americans will be “shocked” by the details of a new report about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
Blumenthal made the comments after Senate members met with acting USSS Director Ronald Rowe for a closed-door briefing.
“I think the American people are gonna be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt of a former president,” said Blumenthal.
“But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank as it should be to them in terms of providing information,” the Senator added.
Blumenthal vowed that lawmakers would “absolutely insist on the truth and the whole truth” in uncovering documents and testimony related to the shooting.
When asked what new information he learned that would shock Americans, Blumenthal said he wouldn’t go into specific details at this time.
“We will have a report very very soon that I think will absolutely shock the American people, or it should, about the lapses and lags in the protection that was afforded that day,” said the Senator.
Meanwhile, Republican Senator Josh Hawley asserted that “the Department of Homeland Security is pressuring the Secret Service not to comply with document requests by Congress about the Trump assassination attempt.”
Hawley asked why a female Secret Service agent who failed a key exam was put in charge of Trump’s visit to Butler, Pennsylvania.
“I mean this is really getting to be outrageous, the American people need the truth here,” Hawley told Fox News.
As we previously highlighted, watchdog group Judicial Watch said the FBI is hiding records relating to its coordination with the Secret Service for the rally during which would-be assassin Thomas Crooks tried to kill Trump.
Crooks’ body was cremated just 10 days after the assassination attempt, leading some to assert that this was part of an attempt to cover up evidence.
