Zelensky Lectures US Lawmakers To Be “Morally Strong” By Sending Him Another $95 Billion

“We anticipate an equally strong moral choice” in the House

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video message Tuesday, decreeing that US Senators have made “a morally strong choice” by agreeing to advance a bill to send another $95 billion in aid to the country, adding that he expects Representatives in the House to do the same.

“A strategically important vote took place today in the United States,” Zelensky proclaimed, adding “The Senate voted in favour of a package of further support for our country, our warriors, our efforts, and democracy in general.”

Zelensky further declared that the decision is imperative for “all nations whose independence is a target for Russian attacks either now or in the future.”

“The next step is a vote in the House of Representatives,” he continued, adding “This is extremely important. We anticipate an equally strong moral choice and decision that will enter into effect contributing to our common security.”

The legislation passed in the Senate by 70-29 votes, with 22 Republicans siding with all Democrats on the matter.

GOP Senator Ron Johnson spoke out against the funding bill, noting “The debate we should be having right now is ‘what do we need to do to secure our border and keep Americans safe,’ NOT ‘how do we get money to secure Ukraine’s border?’”

GOP Senator Rand Paul attempted to filibuster the bill, speaking for an hour on the Senate floor.

“This bill is Ukraine first, and America last,” Paul said, adding “I think the American people agree with me. We spent five days filibustering this, and I know we will lose sometime tonight. We can each speak for an hour. I think we will get to 2 or 3 in the morning.”

He continued, “So we can hold them off, we can draw attention to this, but this is about winning America. This isn’t about winning this vote. It’s about showing America that we care about your sovereignty, we care about your tax dollars, and we think that the priority should be here. The priority should be our border.”

Speaker of The House Mike Johnson has refused to hold a vote on the legislation until Congress passes measures to secure the southern US border.

“House Republicans were crystal clear from the very beginning of our discussions that any so-called national security supplemental legislation must recognize that national security begins at our own border,” Johnson also wrote in a statement. “

Zero Hedge reports that “in response, House Democrats are laying the groundwork to force a vote on it anyway using a rare procedural move known as a discharge petition, which would require at least 218 signatures – and the support of some Republicans, to bring the legislation up for a vote.”

The report further notes that House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said that the caucus would use “use every available legislative tool” to advance the bill, adding that “traditional Republicans” need to get behind it.
