After Donald Trump trounced Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire Republican primary, despite the fact that Democrats were turning out to vote for Haley, a CNN panel ridiculed how she is pretending there is still a path to victory.
Former Obama campaign manager David Axelrod said “The fact is when you set out to win a primary and you don’t win, it’s hard to spin it into a victory, and you can’t keep doing it.”
“In Iowa she was going to finish second, she finished third. In New Hampshire, she was going to win,” Axelrod added.
“I really question whether she really ultimately wants to go forward to South Carolina and put her popularity to the test in her home state,” Axelrod continued.
“I’m wondering whether her supporters and financiers and donors are going to want to do that too. I think the handwriting is on the wall,” he further urged, adding “Presidential politics isn’t horseshoes, you don’t get close and win. You gotta score.”
Former Bush advisor Scott Jennings chimed in with an actual quote from Haley which prompted the panel to fall about laughing: “‘We got close to half the votes,’ In a two-person race.”
Another former Obama advisor Van Jones told Haley that she has “got four weeks of every Republican in the world coming out and endorsing Donald Trump and throwing spitballs before “you go to South Carolina to get humiliated in your home state…I don’t think this is going to be a good month for you.”
Meanwhile, MSNBC host Joy Reid suggested that Haley should be propped up and kept in the race by a “donor class” just to try and hurt Trump’s campaign:
