New Year’s Eve Islamist Car Bomb Attack on Cologne Cathedral Stopped by German Police

Three suspects arrested before they could strike famous landmark.

German police foiled a New Year’s Eve Islamist terror attack on Cologne Cathedral which was reportedly set to involve a car filled with explosives.

Authorities were on high alert over the past week in anticipation of the famous landmark being targeted, with armed police patrolling the church.

It now emerges that three Islamists who plotted the attack were arrested before they could strike.

“The suspects were detained in the cities of Duisburg, Herne and Dueren in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and their apartments in these areas were also searched,” reports the Telegraph.

Cologne police said the three Tajik detainees likely planned to use a vehicle to car bomb the Cathedral “in which way is not known”.

The jihadist cell was operating on behalf of Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K), an Isis offshoot in Afghanistan.

According to Peter Neumann, a terrorism expert at King’s College London, the network is “probably the only Isis offshoot that would currently be capable of carrying out a large, coordinated attack in the West”.

Cologne Cathedral was the site of the infamous New Year’s Eve 2015 mass molestation of women by huge gangs of migrants from North Africa.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has previously warned she was “concerned that New Year’s Eve could once again be a day on which we experience blind rage and senseless violence.”

Security services in Germany, Spain, Austria beefed up their presence outside churches and other major landmarks over the Christmas period after learning terrorists had schemed to bring chaos to major cities.

The planned attacks were motivated by Israel’s bombing of Gaza and offered further proof that Europe has imported huge numbers of people who represent a clear and present danger to its native population.

As we previously highlighted, French authorities had also feared some sort of New Year’s Eve terror attack and had deployed 90,000 police and gendarmes to counter the threat.

  1. Strange how poland has none of these problems after years of anti-immigration government.
Who would have thought it? being anti-immigration brings peace and stability.
