Tourists Capsize Gondola After Trying to Take Selfies in Venice

Ignored gondolier’s advice to stay still.

A group of Asian tourists fell into a canal in Venice after capsizing their gondola by taking selfies, ignoring the gondolier’s instructions not to move around in the boat.

Whoops.

After the gondolier told the tourists to remain still as he poled the boat beneath a low bridge along the Rio de la Verona canal, they all rushed to one side of the boat to take selfies.

Bad idea.

The gondolier capsized and they all fell into the water.

The clip shows the tourists struggling to cling to the side of the boat as they desperately fumble around in the freezing water to retrieve their smart phones.

The gondolier also ended up in the water, but managed to rescue the other people without any of them sustaining any injuries.

“The footage was posted by a social media account called Venezia non è Disneyland or Venice is not Disneyland, which documents the inconsiderate behaviour of tourists, Venice’s inexorable population decline and the looming risk of it turning into a sort of soulless architectural and cultural theme park,” reports the Telegraph.

“Tourists have been caught swimming in canals in their underwear, wakeboarding and performing dives off the tops of historic buildings.”

The incident is another lesson, particularly for Asian tourists, that actually living in the moment rather than constantly viewing the world through your iPhone screen makes for a more pleasurable experience.

  1. Fucking idiots. Anyone that does selfies are just vein vacuous soulless individuals with serious insecurity issues that require constant servicing to fill their empty insides.
