Senator Rand Paul has been labeled a hero after he saved a fellow Republican Senator from choking on food by performing the Heimlich maneuver earlier this week.
Paul, who is a medical doctor, sprung to action when Iowa Senator Joni Ernst began choking at a luncheon she was hosting for Senate Republicans Thursday morning.
The food on the menu, giant pork chops and ribeye steaks, was clearly a little much for Ernst as she began to struggle to breathe owing to a blockage in her esophagus.
All was well, however after Paul successfully dislodged the blockage using the age old technique.
Once Ernst had recovered, the pair of Senator gave a short demonstration on what to do if such a situation occurs.
Ernst even joked about the incident, at the expense of Democrats, in an X post:
