The outbreak of a “mystery illness” amongst children in China has prompted new pandemic concerns.
Hospitals in major cities across the country are reportedly “overwhelmed with sick children” suffering from a pneumonia-like virus.
ProMed, the same organization that warned doctors about a mystery virus in December 2019 which later turned out to be COVID, is once again sounding the alarm.
“This report suggests a widespread outbreak of an undiagnosed respiratory illness … It is not at all clear when this outbreak started as it would be unusual for so many children to be affected so quickly,” said the group.

The WHO is urging residents in the areas affected to wear face masks and avoid ill people.
“Many, many are hospitalized. They don’t cough and have no symptoms,” said one Beijing resident.
