An NPR/Ipsos poll has revealed that over 50 percent of Americans feel that the southern border is under ‘invasion’ from illegal immigrants.
The poll asked over a thousand people if they believed the crisis at the border constituted an “invasion” to which 28 percent said the statement is “completely true” and 25 percent saying it is “somewhat true.”
When asked if they feel the U.S. is now operating an “open border policy.” 21 percent of respondents answered “completely true,” with a further 21 percent saying that they think it is “somewhat true.”
A combined percentage of fifty also said they feel its completely or somewhat true that the cause of overdoses and deaths from illegal drugs can be blamed on the influx at the border.
The findings come as data from Customs and Border Protection shows that more than two million people have attempted to cross the border in the 2022 fiscal year so far.
That figure equates to a 22 year high.
In one incident filmed last week, Border Patrol agents were witnessed unlocking a gate in Eagle Pass and allowing illegal immigrants to pour through after the National Guard had locked it.
The incident prompted Senator Rand Paul to call for a ‘zero tolerance policy’ at the border to be implemented.
“Anybody who is caught in the act of coming in should be immediately placed back on the other side,” Paul asserted, adding “No process, nothing. If you were caught breaking in, not through a normal portal of entry, you should go back on the other side of the river immediately.”
