The Associated Press Just ‘Fact Checked’ Another Meme

“The fabricated screenshot is blurry, and there is slight discoloration behind some of the words.”

The Associated Press has ‘fact checked’ a meme that suggested Shinzo Abe, the former Japanese president who was shot dead last week, had said he was going to leak information that could lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.

Yes really.

The meme spread quickly on social media following the horrific assassination of Abe during a speech at a campaign rally in the western city of Nara.

The point of the meme is to highlight that a startling number of people who have formerly worked under the Clintons have been killed in mysterious circumstances or committed ‘suicide’.

Yes, it may be considered somewhat insensitive to post this on the same day as Abe’s assassination, but no one was seriously suggesting it was real.

No matter, the AP’s ‘fact checkers’ ran an investigation anyway.

The AP further noted that “Archived images of his legitimate Twitter account spanning several days this week, including as recently as Tuesday, show that these account details have not changed. Further, no such tweet about Clinton currently appears on his profile.”

The in depth probe continued,“A translation of the Japanese text in the fabricated tweet shows that it is a truncated phrase that does not mention Clinton. It says, ‘to repeat, I,’”.

And on it went…

“There are other signs the image has been manipulated. The fabricated screenshot is blurry, and there is slight discoloration behind some of the words.”

And there was more…

“The Japanese characters by the incorrect username appear pixelated and stretched. It also uses a different typeface for some words than the one that is typically displayed on Twitter.”

Well, thank god that is cleared up.

This is not the first time memes have been subject to such ‘fact checks’ by the truth overlords.

It isn’t even the first time a meme purporting that Hillary Clinton committed a crime has been fact checked.

These so called fact checkers aren’t impartial, independent outlets, they are merely hyper-partisan information attack dogs working on behalf of the regime.

As we highlighted last month, USA Today, which is used as a ‘fact checker’ by many social media platforms, was forced to delete 23 articles from its website after an investigation found one of its reporters had fabricated sources.
