The Sunday Telegraph reported that Begum, who left the UK to join ISIS in 2015, was a member of the “hisba” enforcement group, which handed out brutal punishments to those found flouting ISIS laws on how to dress and behave.
“There were lots of young European women in the hisba. Some of them were very harsh and the local population became very scared,” said Aghiad al-Kheder, an activist from Deir ez-Zor who founded an anti-ISIS collective.
