Pentagon Weighs 10,000 ADDITIONAL Ground Troops As Iran Conflict Escalates

Massive troop buildup raises serious questions about the scope of US involvement and potential for ground operations

The Pentagon is actively considering the deployment of up to 10,000 additional ground troops to the Middle East. According to the Wall St Journal, these forces would likely include infantry units and armoured vehicles, significantly expanding American ground capabilities in the region.

This potential reinforcement would build on the roughly 5,000 US Marines already ordered to deploy, along with thousands of paratroopers from the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division.

Together, the moves could bring the total of additional ground-capable forces into the tens of thousands, positioning them within striking distance of Iran and its strategic assets.

The extra troops are intended to give President Trump a broader range of military options as he balances ongoing talks with Tehran. Reports indicate the forces could support contingencies such as operations to seize Kharg Island, a small but critical strip of land off Iran’s coast that handles approximately 90 percent of the country’s oil exports.

Such a move would tie directly into efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively blocked, disrupting roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.

A White House spokesperson stated: “All announcements regarding troop deployments will come from the Department of War. As we have said, President Trump always has all military options at his disposal.”

Trump has also extended the pause on planned strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure. In a Truth Social post he wrote: “As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well.”

President Trump confirmed the negotiation extension in this clip:

As we previously highlighted, Tucker Carlson addressed the implications of the buildup in this analysis:

He stated: “So that right there is Israel saying, ‘We’re going to need the commitment of American troops. Americans are going to have to go there.’ And surprise, surprise, Americans are going there. There are many thousands of US troops headed there right now. Some are already stationed in the area. And this looks like the kind of preparation that you would do if you were planning a land assault on a huge mountainous country that’s surprisingly cohesive and very well armed.”

On the Iranian side, state television has claimed that over one million soldiers and volunteers have mobilized to defend against any incursion.

A military source told Tasnim News Agency: “The US wants to open the Strait of Hormuz with suicide and self-destructive tactics; that’s fine. We are ready for both their suicide strategy to be executed and for the Strait to remain closed.” Iranian officials described a “wave of enthusiasm” to create what they call a “historic hell for American forces” should any ground operations proceed.

Trump addressed voter concerns over new conflicts in the following exchange, noting “I have to do something in terms of making America great and keeping America great, and when you have lunatics with nuclear weapons, and the power is beyond belief, I will tell you, as a president, I get to see it.”

The situation remains highly fluid. While diplomatic efforts have been given additional time until April 6, the scale of the US ground force preparations underscores the seriousness of contingency planning should talks fail to resolve the standoff over the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional tensions.

The coming days will clarify whether negotiations can prevent further escalation or if the growing American troop presence leads to more direct involvement on the ground.
