Another bright young American is dead — 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman, gunned down near campus in a random attack by a Venezuelan illegal alien who never should have been loose on U.S. streets.
The killer, Jose Medina-Medina, was caught and released by Border Patrol twice in 2023 under the Biden administration. Yet Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s eventual response was to deflect blame onto President Trump.
As we previously highlighted, Pritzker rushed to mourn the agitators who were killed in ICE-related incidents in Minnesota, yet stayed completely silent on the murder happening in his own backyard under his sanctuary-state policies.
Now he’s finally speaking — and choosing to attack the ones actually securing the border.
Pritzker told reporters on Tuesday: “This has been a terrible tragedy. And I know that the Gorman family has suffered mightily … there have been real failures. Those failures, of course, extend beyond the borders of Illinois. They’re national failures, a failure to have comprehensive immigration reform, a failure of the president to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst.”
The gall of this guy.
He continued: “And in my view, we have a lot of work that we need to continue to do. But it is the job of the federal government to go after immigration enforcement, and it is the job of our local and state law enforcement to prosecute or catch violent criminals and prosecute them, and we should continue to do that both on the state level and the national level.”
The facts tell a different story. Medina-Medina entered illegally, was released into the country in May 2023, then arrested for shoplifting in Chicago weeks later — and released again thanks to Illinois’ sanctuary policies.
DHS has now lodged a detainer, but the damage is done. Gorman was shot in the head as she tried to flee her attacker around 1:30 a.m. on March 19 near Tobey Prinz Beach, an area Pritzker previously touted as safe.
Pritzker’s office doubled down, claiming: “The Trump Administration needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts.”
This from the same governor who has feuded with Trump over ICE operations and backed lawsuits against federal enforcement in his state.
While most Democrats stay silent or deflect, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman broke ranks and delivered a blunt reality check. He’s the only high-profile Democrat showing any willingness to acknowledge the obvious: open-border and sanctuary policies are getting Americans killed.
Fetterman said: “Why can’t we just talk about that life lost? Why can’t we just acknowledge this is a serious, serious failure … it’s devastating as a father.”
He added: “We have to require to protect America from the dangerous elements that shouldn’t even be here illegally always.”
Fetterman, a co-sponsor of the Laken Riley Act, pointed directly at his own party: “I think only seven or eight Democrats even voted for Laken Riley. Why can’t you just agree that if you’re breaking the law and you’re already here illegally, deport them? I just don’t understand. And then tragedies just like what happened to that young woman, they are going to continue to happen. That’s justice, that’s beyond common sense. Why can’t you just support this? Why is that unreasonable to anybody?”
He concluded: “But I’d rather be on the moral clarities or on the kinds of right side of history or the correct kinds of principles.”

Even within deep-blue Chicago, more Democrats are starting to push back against the party line. Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez directly called out his fellow Democrats for refusing to cooperate with the Trump administration on removing dangerous criminal aliens while shifting blame onto Trump.
Lopez stated: “To say it’s Donald Trump’s fault, simply because we refuse to work with them. There are 2,000 priority targets in Chicago right now.”
He continued: “Who we know are dangerous—but we won’t let the Trump Administration remove them, simply because we don’t want to look as though we are capitulating to him. If you’re going to blame the federal government, then blame it where the problem began, which was under the Biden/Harris administration. I have YET to hear a single Democrat hold Biden and Harris accountable for what has happened.”

Angel mom Jennifer Bos, whose own child was killed by an illegal alien, blasted Democrats for shifting blame onto Trump when the killer was let in under Biden.
Bos stated: “Pritzker needs to point the finger DIRECTLY at himself. These are his policies, his laws!”

Laken Riley was murdered by another Venezuelan released under Biden. Illinois Democrats are now dodging questions about their votes against the Laken Riley Act, which would have mandated detention for exactly this kind of repeat offender.
Pritzker spent months bragging about Chicago’s “safety” and even posted glowing videos of the exact lakeside path where Gorman was executed. Chicago’s sanctuary mayor ramped up “ICE-free zones” while ICE tried to target the worst criminal aliens. The result is yet another American family shattered.
Sheridan Gorman’s parents said their daughter “was the light of our lives” and “lived her faith with kindness, compassion, and joy.” That light was extinguished by policies that prioritize foreign criminals over American safety.
Sanctuary politicians like Pritzker are the ones standing in the way of real security. Until they face reality, more innocent lives will be lost to the chaos they refuse to stop.
