Santa Is TOO WHITE, Shouldn’t Judge ‘Naughty’ Children From ‘Diverse’ Cultures Says Museum

Ho ho… no

Woke ideologues at a UK Museum are attacking Santa Claus as a symbol of white Western dominance, insisting his ‘naughty list’ enforces colonial binaries that must be scrapped for diversity’s sake.

Yes, really.

Brighton and Hove Museums sparked fury with a blog post declaring Father Christmas too rooted in Western traditions, and in need of “decolonization” to avoid imposing judgments on diverse children.

The post claims Santa’s story promotes problematic power dynamics, stating “For many children, the story of Santa Claus is as much a part of Christmas as gifts and Christmas dinner. But the tale of a white, Western Santa who judges all children’s behaviour has problems.”

It elaborates: “As he visits each nation he determines if the children deserve presents based on being ‘naughty’ or ‘nice’.”

“But who decided Santa should be the judge of children’s behaviour in every community? How can he assess, for example, Indigenous children practising their own cultural traditions?” the ridiculous post further ponders.

“Told like this, the story presents Santa as the ultimate authority of all societies. This asks us to accept colonial assumptions of cultural superiority,” the posts further charges.

The museum urges parents to “challenge the colonial gaze” by halting rewards “based on a Western binary of ‘naughty/nice’,” and to “Focus on bringing joy to kids of all backgrounds rather than judging them.”

It recommends recasting Santa as a “more diverse character who celebrates cultural exchange”.

“Have Santa learn about different cultures rather than judge them,” it recommends, adding “Stories could show him experiencing their traditions. Emphasise cultural exchange rather than assessment.”

The post further suggests: “Include people from around the world in Santa’s workshop. This acknowledges global input. Put Santa to work in the factory alongside the elves. This shows him and the elves as equal.”

It also suggests: “Alternatively, Father Christmas could become ‘Mother Christmas’.”

“An inclusive adaptation could include many Santas from different regions,” the post further imagines, adding “Include some Mother Christmases. Patriarchy and colonialism went hand in hand. Show the next generation that men don’t have to be in charge.”

It concludes: “The goal is moving away from a colonial narrative of dominance. Instead, tell a story that emphasises cultural diversity, exchange and respect.”

Critics tore into the blog as absurd and humorless.

Lord Young, founder of the Free Speech Union, told The Telegraph the museum was “po-faced”.

He said: “I don’t think children in non-Christian countries are going to object when Santa pops down their chimney to give them a present.”

“Is this museum suggesting they should leave a note saying ‘sorry, but this is a decolonised fireplace and white supremacists dressed in red aren’t welcome’? If so, it should rename itself the Right On and Po-Faced Museum.”

Alka Sehgal Cuthbert, director of Don’t Divide Us, said: “The idea that Santa Claus needs to be decolonised is laughable. It also shows that there are no limits to what [lengths] ideologues in cultural institutions … will go to in seeking to rupture our sense of belonging to a common past and culture.

“This playing at faux radical, anti-West politics by museums is boring, tedious and intellectually vacuous. This isn’t culture, it’s playpen politics which should not be getting public funding or official endorsement from witless museums. The museum could get Grinch of the Year award, though,” Cuthbert adds.

A spokesman for the museum said people were “free to agree or disagree” with the blog.

“As museum educators, our role is not to tell people what is right or wrong, but to help audiences look at history and culture from more than one point of view and to create opportunities for discussion and debate, just as we do when interpreting art, objects and historic places,” the spokesman added.

He further claimed, “The piece about Father Christmas was intended to prompt reflection rather than prescribe how anyone should celebrate Christmas. It looks at how familiar stories are shaped, whose perspectives they centre, and how they might be explored when we include viewpoints beyond a white Western perspective.”

He continued, “Encouraging curiosity, critical thinking and conversation is a core part of museum education. Presenting different ways of understanding cultural stories, including festive ones, is part of that work, and people are free to agree or disagree.”

This decolonization obsession mirrors broader assaults on British heritage by taxpayer-funded outfits, like government efforts to hide art that doesn’t fit the approved narrative.

In pushing this agenda, these institutions fracture shared traditions rather than unite around them, all while claiming the moral high ground.

At its core, vilifying Santa as a colonial relic exposes the brittle fanaticism of woke crusaders—determined to extinguish Christmas magic under the banner of ‘progress’. Defending timeless customs is key to preserving cultural freedom against such petty tyranny.

This festive farce is yet another example of so called cultural institutions peddling divisive nonsense, robbing Christmas of its innocent joy in the name of endless grievance-mongering.
