A violent repeat offender who brutally blinded a 75-year-old woman in a random downtown Seattle attack identifies as transgender, with his public defender using she/her pronouns in court—highlighting yet another layer of absurdity in a system that repeatedly fails victims while coddling criminals.
As we previously reported in our coverage of this savage assault, Fale Vaigalepa Pea, 42, struck Jeanette Marken from behind with a wooden board embedded with a screw, shattering her face and leaving her permanently blind in one eye.
The attack, captured on surveillance video, unfolded outside the King County Courthouse on December 5, underscoring the deadly consequences of Democrat-led catch-and-release policies in liberal strongholds.
In a court appearance this week, Pea’s public defender, Kevin Robinson, referred to the defendant using female pronouns, despite charging documents identifying Pea as a man.
Robinson immediately raised concerns about Pea’s mental competency, stating, “I have worked with Ms. Pea briefly before… there’s a long history of findings of incompetence, and the symptoms that have been noted before I have observed personally today.” The judge granted a motion for a competency hearing, setting bail at $1 million.
Charging documents describe the assault as “violent, random and wholly unjustified,” detailing Pea’s extensive rap sheet: a 2011 second-degree assault conviction and multiple misdemeanor assaults in 2024, 2023, and 2020. Yet Pea remained free to roam Seattle’s streets, empowered by a revolving-door justice system that prioritizes offenders over public safety.
Surveillance footage shows Pea approaching Marken from behind, using both hands to swing the weapon like a baseball bat, knocking her to the ground in a pool of blood. Witnesses rushed to aid the bleeding victim as Pea casually walked away.
Police bodycam video captured officers recognizing Pea immediately upon arrest. “Is that Fale Pea?” one officer asks. Another confirms, “He’s notorious for random assaults on Third [Avenue].” When an EMT inquires about the suspect, a cop responds, “He’s a regular. He usually punches. I guess today he decided to escalate from his usual.”
Marken, transported to Harborview Medical Center, suffered a broken nose, shattered cheekbone, and irreversible blindness. Doctors estimate only a 10% chance of regaining vision, and she may require eye removal.
In an exclusive interview with KING 5, Marken’s son, Andrius Dyrikis, expressed the family’s outrage. “A lottery; not a positive lottery,” he said. “It’s an awful, horrible lottery.”
He questioned the system’s failures: “How could this happen here? What is wrong? What is happening? Who is doing something wrong that this is happening?”
Dyrikis highlighted Pea’s history: “This is not the first assault,” he said. “He has assaulted before, so why the hell would anyone that is assaulting random people… be left on the street? That doesn’t make sense.”
On a GoFundMe page for medical costs, Dyrikis detailed the trauma: “She remembers the shock, the pain, the fear of suddenly not being able to see. Strangers, people I will always be grateful for, rushed to help her, but she could only hear their voices. Her vision in her right eye was gone, and she was losing too much blood. At the hospital, we learned she had multiple fractures in her face, skull and nose… and that the damage to her right eye was permanent. She will never see from that eye again.”
He added, “For a woman who worked every day to support herself and her family, this attack took more than her health. It stole her independence, her ability to work, and the sense of safety she once had. Now even the simplest tasks are difficult. She faces a long road of surgeries, recovery, and emotional healing.”
This case exemplifies the chaos in Democrat-run cities, where identity claims and mental health excuses shield predators from accountability. Pea was booked eight times this year alone without felony charges, allowing the escalation to this horrific act.
From Seattle to New York, these policies recycle violent thugs, endangering innocents. As President Trump attempts to restore law and order, incidents like this demand an end to the madness—before more victims pay the price.
