026 … chastity and family-friendly animated Christian movies in, erotic thrillers and fully nude Sydney Sweeney out.
The weekend box office numbers reveal an interesting trend among American moviegoers. The number one spot, perhaps unsurprisingly, went to the latest installment of the popular “Avatar” franchise, “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” But at numbers two and three, we had a slight shocker, in my opinion.
“David,” an animated Christian movie about the timeless story of David versus Goliath, pulled in $22,000,000 this weekend. Sydney Sweeney’s new movie, an erotic thriller called “The Housemaid,” followed behind at $19,000,000. “David” even beat out “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.”
According to a quick Google search and two friends who have seen the movie, “The Housemaid” features a scene in which Sweeney is fully naked. The friends who saw the movie were a couple; both enjoyed the film and recommended it, though, according to her, a full-on nipple was visible during Sweeney’s sex scene.

I myself have neither seen “David” nor “The Housemaid,” and nor do I have much desire to see either. Though when “David” eventually is released on demand, it would be a great movie to watch at home with my niece or nephew. And if I had kids, I would definitely see it in theaters. It looks good, almost on the level of a Pixar movie.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for whether “David” maintains its momentum over the Sweeney flick. I’m sure many women who had planned to see the movie with their husbands or boyfriends will decide against it now that they have gotten wind of a Sweeney nude scene. I’m not sure she has appeared fully nude in previous movies or shows, but maybe she has.
Also, the success of “David” so far might show Hollywood executives and creatives that you can make a movie grounded in a Christian message that is both entertaining, artistic, and profitable. That’s a good sign for the movie industry in the coming year.
