Trump’s Migrant Crackdown Escalates: 353K Haitians Lose Protected Status

‘Inconsistent with U.S. interests’

The Department of Homeland Security has terminated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 353,000 Haitian migrants in the U.S., with their protections due to expire in February 2026, marking another hammer blow in President Trump’s overhaul of Biden-era immigration policies.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s decision follows interagency consultations, concluding, “Haiti no longer meets the statutory requirements for TPS,”  according to a federal register notice.

“This decision was based on a review conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, input from relevant U.S. government agencies, and an analysis indicating that allowing Haitian nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is inconsistent with U.S. national interests,” DHS said in a news release.

Haiti was first granted TPS in 2010 following a devastating earthquake, with protections repeatedly extended amid cascading crises.

Biden’s 2024 renewal cited “simultaneous economic, security, political, and health crises” exacerbated by rampant gang violence and governmental dysfunction.

DHS advises those affected to prepare for departure, noting “This secure and convenient self-deportation process includes a complimentary plane ticket, a $1,000 exit bonus, and potential future opportunities for legal immigration to the United States.”

The move echoes Trump’s recent axing of Somali TPS in Minnesota, where he declared “Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!”

Trump’s Somali TPS termination targeted Minnesota’s 100K+ diaspora as a “hub of fraudulent money laundering,” tying into broader fraud scandals.

The Haitian purge also mirrors Trump’s swift Afghan immigration freeze after the shooting near the White House by a 2021 Biden-granted asylum seeker, critically wounding National Guardsmen Andrew Wolfe and killing West Virginia National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom.

USCIS halted “processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals… pending further review,” drawing leftist cries of “collective identity-based punishment.”

Roughly 85,000 Afghans imported under Biden now face reexamination, amplifying Trump’s “no one else has to die” deportation drive.

Leftists are whining about “collective punishment,” but Trump’s team frames it as security-first, ending extensions that shielded migrants without full vetting.
