President Trump’s immediate freeze on Afghan immigration requests, triggered by an Afghan national’s shooting of two National Guards members in D.C., has ignited anger among leftists decrying it as “collective punishment.”
The move, announced via U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), halts “processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals… pending further review of security and vetting protocols.”
It comes as a direct response to the attack by a 2021 asylum grantee, underscoring Trump’s push to “reexamine” all Biden-era imports amid zero-fatality hopes for the victims.
Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols.

Mass immigration advocate Jill Filipovic blasted the move as “collective identity-based punishment and not how any fair processes should work.”
Shawn VanDiver of NGO #AfghanEvac urged, “This individual alone is responsible for his actions… This individual’s isolated and violent act should not be used as an excuse to define or diminish an entire community.”
Demonstrations in Doha, Qatar, demanded U.S. visas, with roughly 85,000 Afghans imported under Biden, including the shooter, now facing status reviews.
Meanwhile CNN Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst John Miller exposed Biden’s “chaotic” vetting process that let thousands in without proper checks.
Miller laid bare the reality of Biden’s asylum initiatives for Afghans, stating “The vetting process that they went through with these people was chaotic.
He added, “The Afghan records were spotty, as you would imagine.”
Miller highlighted the program’s scale—88,500 refugees by 2022, many tied to U.S. agencies but vetted hastily.
“Some of these people were people who worked for the military… Most of them, or their families associated with them, were coming on the idea that, if we stay behind, the Taliban will make us pay the price,” he outlined.

Yesterday’s attack near the White House left the two off-duty troops critically wounded, with one tragically dying today in hospital.
The suspect, a 33-year-old Afghan granted asylum in 2021 under Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome, was arrested blocks away.
