Trump Drops Hammer On Somalis: “Send Them Back To Where They Came From”

“It’s OVER!”

In a blistering Truth Social salvo Friday night, President Trump declared an immediate end to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis in Minnesota, branding the state a “hub of fraudulent money laundering activity” overrun by gangs and siphoning billions in U.S. tax dollars.

He then delivered the line his base has been waiting six years to hear again: “Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!”

The move, targeting the nation’s largest Somali diaspora—estimated at over 100,000 strong—strikes at the heart of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) community, where TPS has shielded migrants from deportation since Somalia’s 1991 civil war chaos, as extended by DHS amid ongoing instability.

Trump’s full post, per NY Post reporting:

“I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER! President DJT.”

The announcement has reignited the deportation push, with MAGA voices cheering the crackdown on alleged fraud rings funneling cash to Al-Shabaab terrorists.

Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen and fierce TPS defender, pushed back swiftly, stating “Most of us Somali Americans are citizens; the policy change will not affect us,” downplaying the impact on her base while slamming the order as a “cruel and baseless attack” on hardworking families.

Her retort signals a strategic pivot amid Trump’s escalating feud, which saw him urge her to “return to Somalia” earlier this month over a homeland-praise video.

During his first term, Trump targeted Omar and the Squad with tweets telling them to “go back” to the “crime infested places from which they came,” triggering “Send her back!” chants at rallies.

This September Trump quipped that he asked Somalia’s president if he’d “take Ilhan Omar back,” claiming the leader replied, “No thanks, we’ve got enough problems.”

Weeks earlier, Omar had torched bipartisan tributes to Charlie Kirk as “full of sh*t,” giving Trump fresh ammo to paint her as an ungrateful radical.

Now, with one Truth Social post, Trump has turned the old chant into policy — and aimed it at Omar’s entire community.

Legal challenges are already forming: TPS terminations require 60-day notice and face near-certain court injunctions. Omar’s allies, from the ACLU to Minnesota mosques, are gearing up for battle, branding the move “retaliatory racism”.
