Vice President JD Vance has opened up about his potential 2028 presidential ambitions during an exclusive Hannity interview, confirming plans to discuss it with President Trump after the 2026 midterms
The Vice President emphasised, however, that all of his current focus is on delivering now for Americans.
Vance stressed humility in the GOP succession, saying, “People have asked me do you see Marco [Rubio] as a rival? First, if either of us run, neither are entitled to it.”

He added, “It would be ridiculous for me to say Marco is a rival. Marco is a colleague…My best friend. We can cross that bridge when we come to it.”
When Hannity mentioned Trump wanting to design the next ticket, Vance laughed, responding “I know he does.”
This candid exchange underscores Vance’s loyalty amid speculation of a Vance-Rubio powerhouse ticket.
Vance firmly rejected early 2028 jockeying, stating, “If you wake up in my job…asking yourself, ‘What’s good for my future in a few years?’ You won’t do a good job right now.”
? JD VANCE: Here's why the presidential 2028 focus is bad. If you wake up in my job…asking yourself, 'What's good for my future in a few years?' You won't do a good job RIGHT NOW. I ask myself, 'What's good for the president, the people, right NOW.'

PERFECTLY said.

I ask myself, ‘What’s good for the president, the people, right now.’” He emphasised, “That’s what I have to be focused on. So long as I do that, politics will take care of itself.”
On timing, Vance revealed, “We’re gonna win the midterms…After that, I’ll sit down with POTUS and talk to him about it. But let’s focus on the now. We’ve got well over a year to do as much as we can for the American people.”

But right now, he's 100% focused on working for the people

He concluded, “If we do a good job, the politics will take care of itself. If we do a terrible job? The politics will take care of itself in the other direction. So I’m just gonna focus on the job that I have.”
This approach once again reflects the Trump administration’s commitment to results over rhetoric.
In a lighthearted moment, Vance quipped about the vice presidency under Biden, saying, “If I served under Joe Biden, I’d probably be worried every minute of every day that he was gonna croak, and I’d have to become president!”
He added with a laugh, “I’d never be able to sleep, I’d always have my cellphone as loud as possible,” underscoring the stark contrast between Trump’s vigorous leadership and the frailty of the previous administration.

Vance also unleashed a blistering critique of Democrats’ strategy during the recent shutdown, calling it “stupid” and destructive.
He declared, “I don’t understand the psychology of a Democrat who says, ‘We’d like to burn the country down just to get Donald Trump!’”
Vance hammered their priorities: “They don’t care if the troops don’t get paid! They don’t care if you cause billions of dollars in lost productivity. They don’t care if you shut down the airline industry, which they were very close to doing. They just want to get Trump!”
He continued, “And they don’t care if they have to burn the entire country down in order to get Trump. That’s what they want to do. And I think that it shows how stupid that approach is politically, because normally you would expect the president of United States to get blamed for a shutdown.”
Praising public discernment, Vance noted, “The American people were smart enough to recognize that the Democrats were the ones who were sort of holding this hostage.”
He accused them outright: “They were saying that unless you give us everything that we want, unless you give us $1.5 trillion of benefits, health care for illegal aliens, we’re going to destroy the country. We’re going to keep the government shut down indefinitely!”

Vance’s sharp insights and unwavering focus firmly position him as a formidable leader ready to build on current successes while exposing Democratic extremism.
