Five Syrian men aged between 17 and 26 have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Heinsberg, near Aachen.

The Aachen public prosecutor’s office confirmed that the suspects are all Syrian nationals and have been remanded into custody.

According to information reported by Bild and Focus Online, the teenage victim was persuaded by her ex-boyfriend to meet him on Sunday evening. When he picked her up, three other men entered the car. He then drove them to an apartment in Heinsberg, where two additional men were waiting.

The woman was allegedly raped there by the five Syrians, who, according to investigators, threatened her with a Taser during the assault.

After the incident, the suspects reportedly contacted the ex-boyfriend, who picked up the girl and dropped her off at a friend’s house. The victim then informed her friend about what had happened, and the friend’s parents contacted the police.

Senior public prosecutor Katja Schlenkermann-Pitts confirmed that a Special Operations Command (SEK) was involved in the arrests. During the subsequent search of the apartment, officers seized both a Taser and a pistol. Four of the suspects were arrested immediately after the crime, and a fifth later surrendered to authorities.

The Aachener Zeitung reported that the attack took place on Anton-Loevenich-Straße in the Unterbruch district of Heinsberg, in a residential area containing a former school building that had previously served as emergency refugee accommodation but has not been used for that purpose for some time.

Schlenkermann-Pitts said the suspects include both juveniles and adults under German law. Arrest warrants have been issued against all five. For reasons of victim protection, the public prosecutor’s office has declined to provide further details about the victim or the precise circumstances of the assault.

The decision to deploy a SEK unit in a rape investigation was described by local media as unusual. Prosecutors have not commented on the reason for the deployment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
