Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, responded to Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social, which claimed that Ukraine could regain all of its territory with appropriate support, and perhaps even enter Russian territory.

“We will continue our special military operation to secure our interests and achieve the goals that (…) the president of our country has set from the beginning,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

Then he added: “We will do this for the present and future of our country. Therefore, we have no alternative.”

He assessed that Russian forces were moving forward across the entire front, and the dynamics of the war were obvious. He also emphasized that the stability of the Russian economy was assured, which Trump said in his post was collapsing due to Ukrainian strikes on refineries.

Peskov added that the recent rapprochement between Moscow and Washington was yielding “close to zero results.”

Peskov was responding to yesterday’s statement from Trump, who expressed his belief that Ukraine, with the support of the EU, is able to fight and regain its territory in its original form, i.e., within the state borders recognized by the international community.

“After learning about the military and economic situation of Ukraine and Russia and fully understanding it and seeing the economic problems it is causing in Russia, I think that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is able to fight and CONQUER all of Ukraine in its original form,” wrote Trump on Truth Social.

Notably, it appears Trump is now fully backing Ukraine’s military, a significant departure from his previous stance of quickly ending the war with a long-term ceasefire. He also previously had stated on numerous occasions that Ukraine would have to give up territory for peace.

  1. When something doesn’t make sense, it may be a 3d chess move. Trump is calling on THE EU to bolster Ukraine into a winning result against Russia, not NATO, not the USA. Maybe the EU will now think twice about pushing for war with Russia?

  2. Trump grew up during the cold war. He hasn’t gotten use to the idea that Russia is no longer the old Soviet Union. They are advanced and par with NATO in a real fight. They can lay claim to Ukraine if treaties are ignored and they have been ignored. The Americans have too much history of invasion to lecture the Slavs.

Putin is an experienced player and he knows he holds all the cards.
