CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten said on Monday that former Vice President Kamala Harris has only become more unpopular with Democrats since she lost the 2024 presidential election.

Harris’ net favorability rating dropped from -5 points in October 2024 to its current -13 points on a nationwide scale, Enten said on “CNN News Central” while citing Fox News. She is also 37 points underwater with independent voters, making her chances of winning another election very slim.

“Since the general election, among the general electorate, she is not well liked at this particular point. The American people, they don’t want this. They don’t want her,” Enten said. “And get this, she’s 37 points underwater with independents. If you can’t win independents, you can’t win the election and the bottom line is, with those in the center electorate, those who are the most up for grabs, she is way, way, way, way underwater. She is definitely swimming with the fishes.”

Democratic voters appear to prefer Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom over Harris to be the potential 2028 nominee, according to a Yahoo News/YouGov poll. In April, 28% of Democrats preferred Harris while 8% supported Newsom, but those numbers have shifted to 21% in support of Newsom and 19% for Harris as of September 2025, the poll found.

“It’s clear that Gavin Newsom is doing something that the Democratic Party and the Democratic voters want. And Kamala Harris ain’t doing that,” Enten continued.

Harris is further losing support with voters in her home state of California, with 42% of Californians expressing excitement for a different candidate to enter the presidential race in 2028, Enten said while citing Politico. In 2024, 58% of residents in the state supported Harris’ presidential candidacy.

The former vice president did not win a single swing state and became the first Democratic nominee in 20 years to lose the popular vote. She released her book on Tuesday, “107 Days,” which details her presidential campaign against President Donald Trump after former President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Harris revealed in her book that she felt neglected and under appreciated by the Biden White House and claimed Biden and his staff did not highlight her successes or defend her against “untrue attacks.” She also wrote that while former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was her first choice to be her running mate, she did not pick him because he is gay.

While serving as vice president, Harris’ net approval rating reached a record low of -17 points in 2023, the lowest in the history of the NBC News poll.
