Elon Musk has predicted that robots will replace the best human surgeons in just a few years from now.
“Robots will surpass good human surgeons within a few years and the best human surgeons within ~5 years,” Musk emphasized in a now viral quote post responding to conservative influencer Mario Nawfal.
He further noted that “@Neuralink had to use a robot for the brain-computer electrode insertion, as it was impossible for a human to achieve the required speed and precision.”

Complication rates were super low: just 3.7% for prostate surgeries, 1.9% for kidney surgeries, and 17.9% for bladder surgeries, all beating safety goals from years of research.
The robot got a 98.5% success rate, way above the 85% goal — meaning it didn’t just pass the test, it basically set the curve.
Out of 137 surgeries, only 2 needed to switch back to regular surgery — 1 because of a robot glitch, and 1 because of a tricky patient case.
This doesn’t mean robots are replacing surgeons tomorrow, but it does mean your next doctor might have a very expensive metal sidekick.

For some types of surgery yes, especially resectional. Reconstructive surgery especially cardiac probably not. Too much craft.

Robots will continue to be very helpful in surgery, and their role will most definitely expand. But, I don't see a robot surpassing and/or replacing a highly experienced human surgeon.

I've been a surgeon 40+ years and there are always anatomic variants, and split second…
As a surgeon I can’t imagine autonomous robotic surgery. I use robots for total joint replacement and it’s a game changer but to have a robot without a real surgeon right there, not sure

Maybe. Still needs a human surgeon to be present to take over the second there is any kind of anomaly. Gonna need some backup power too – imagine one of these robots half way through an operation and the whole grid goes down like Portugal and Spain did today.
Elon is on a role with replacing us all together. In fairness, he is doing a great job for the wef. No humans at all soon.
