Oh Caramba: Mexico AND Canada Quickly Cave To Trump’s Tariffs

Agree to send troops to secure borders

Both Mexico and Canada fell into line Monday, agreeing to better secure their borders with the US and crack down on drug trafficking after President Trump threatened them with massive tariffs.

Mexico has agreed to deploy 10,000 troops to its border after Trump moved to impose 25 percent tariffs on all goods from the country.

After signing off on an executive order over the weekend to implement the tariff, Trump spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Monday and announced he was pausing the tariffs after an agreement was reached.

In a post to Truth Social, Trump wrote “I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States.”

“These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country,” he added.

The President explained “We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico.”

“I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a ‘deal’ between our two Countries,” Trump further emphasized.

Sheinbaum also posted to X that “10,000 Mexican troops will be used to reinforce the border,” in exchange for pausing the tariffs.

This comes after the Mexican leader and her political allies spent the weekend calling for Mexico to stand firm against Trump’s demands.

Sheinbaum used nationalistic phrases in an attempt to rally Mexicans behind her.

It hasn’t worked, however, with criticism being leveled at her that her party, Morena, has enabled drug traffickers and violent criminal gangs.

It was the second time in a matter of days that Trump’s hard nosed tariffs policy has paid dividends, with Columbia agreeing to accept deportation flights after initially refusing to do so.

Trump threatened the socialist leader of the country Gustavo Petro with huge tariffs and other sanctions, prompting him to immediately back down and even offer to send his own plane to pick up and repatriate Columbian illegals from the US.

Trump also imposed tariffs on Canada and later met with outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who also eventually agreed to all Trump’s terms after initially posturing that Canada would go to trade war and impose its own tariffs on the US.

“I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl,” Trudeau said in a statement.

“Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border,” he continued, adding that “Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering.”

“I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.” “Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together,” the statement concluded.

Trump has also threatened to impose tariffs on the EU, commenting that the globalist body’s “atrocity” posture against American exports has made it imperative.

Trump said “They don’t take our cars, they don’t take our farm products, they take almost nothing and we take everything from them. Millions of cars, tremendous amounts of food and farm products.”

He continued “The UK is out of line, but I’m sure that, I think that one can be worked out. But the European Union is an atrocity what they’ve done.”

Reiterating that he believes trade with the UK can be ironed out, Trump further noted “Prime Minister Starmer has been very nice, we’ve had a couple of meetings. We’ve had numerous phone calls, we’re getting along very well. And we’ll see whether we can balance out our budget.”

  1. Our Crime Minister Justin Trudeau is going to appoint a Fentanyl Czar. How nice. Perhaps he can also appoint a ‘why are so many East Indians rolling into Canada Czar’. The situation is beyond ridiculous.
