An LQBTQ Pride crosswalk in St. Petersburg, Florida has been damaged twice in the space of two weeks by drivers doing burnouts and leaving tire marks, prompting one member of the community to declare “they’re out to get us.”
Police are on the hunt, apparently, for a suspect who was seen purposefully accelerating across the intersection, and a second person who did donuts all over the ‘progressive’ mural.
“Over the last week, two different vehicles have left tire marks damaging the Progressive Pride street mural at the 2500 Central Avenue roundabout,” a Police social media post notes.
It adds “Investigators have no reason to believe the incidents are related.”
Detractors might suggest that The incidents are both related… related to the giant gaudy flag painted all over the road.
“It’s going to cost the City of St. Petersburg $1100 to restore,” police declared, adding “The City aims to have the mural repainted in time for Pride month festivities.”
Mayor Ken Weltch also issued a statement writing “In light of the recent vandalism targeting our Progressive Pride flag mural, I want to emphasize that there is no place for hate in St. Petersburg.”
“We stand united in valuing and appreciating every resident, regardless of their orientation, gender identity, or expression,” Weltch added.
Residents told reporters that they are worried, with one LGBTQ person declaring that “there are people obviously out there to get us.”
It’s not the first time this has happened in Florida, with incidents occurring at other Pride crosswalks in the state.

How about we have a gigantic American Flag painted on the street for July 4th? Like that would ever happen in that town. Probably be too “triggering” and decisive.
