RFK Jr Walks Back “Full Term” Abortion Stance

Too late?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr has walked back a statement he made last week that suggested he supported abortion up to birth.

As we highlighted, Kennedy remarked during a podcast interview “I believe we should leave it to the woman, we shouldn’t have the government involved,” adding “even if it’s full term.”

The comments came as a surprise even to his own running mate.

Now Kennedy has claimed in a lengthy social media post by explaining that, as president, he would allow abortion only “up until a certain number of weeks.”

RFK explained that he had assumed that virtually all late-term abortions were due to potential fatal or catastrophic health related complications.

“I’ve learned that my assumption was wrong,” he noted, adding “Sometimes, women abort healthy, viable late-term fetuses.”

“These cases of purely ‘elective’ late-term abortion are very upsetting. Once the baby is viable outside the womb, it should have rights and it deserves society’s protection,” Kennedy continued.

“I support the emerging consensus that abortion should be unrestricted up until a certain point. I believe that point should be when the baby is viable outside the womb,” Kennedy further wrote, adding “Therefore I would allow appropriate restrictions on abortion in the final months of pregnancy, just as Roe v. Wade did.”

The Independent candidate further urged that “we should be looking at why there are so many abortions in the first place.”

While some thanked RFK for clarifying his stance, others expressed anger that he hasn’t been clear on the issue.

Donald Trump, who last month said that abortion laws should be determined by the states, has said that he’d even prefer Joe Biden over RFK, noting “A lot of people think that Junior is a conservative. He’s not. He’s more liberal than anybody running on the Democratic side.”

Trump further asserted that “A vote for Junior would essentially be a wasted protest vote,” and that RFK is a “Democrat plant, a radical left liberal who has been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden.”
