Biden Rocked as Over 100,000 Vote ‘Uncommitted’ in Michigan

Joe Biden was rocked by a poor result in the Michigan primary, which although he won as expected, over 100,000 people voted ‘uncommitted’.

Biden garnered 81.1 per cent of the final vote, with 13.3 per cent voting ‘uncommitted’, a total of 100,960 votes.

In comparison, in the Michigan Republican primary, there were only 3 per cent ‘uncommitted’ votes.

Despite the fact that incumbent candidates can normally expect almost universal support, the 100,000 figure is far higher than the usual 20,000 voters in Michigan who in past contests have said they were not attached to any prospective nominee.

The ‘uncommitted’ vote in the Dem Michigan primary was just 1.7% in 2016 and 1.2% in 2020.

In Dearborn, Michigan, which has a high Muslim population, Biden lost to ‘uncommitted’ by 50 points.

“That’s a wow,” said CNN’s John King.

The outcome was driven by a protest vote from pro-Palestinians promoted by Listen to Michigan, a campaign group backed by the Palestinian-American Democrat congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.

“I was proud today to walk in and pull a Democratic ballot and vote uncommitted,” Ms Tlaib said yesterday.

Biden beat Trump in Michigan by less than three percentage points in 2020, meaning the sheer weight of lost votes from young voters concerned over Gaza and Arab-Americans could cost him the state.

“Many in Michigan’s Arab-American community who backed Biden in 2020 are now outraged, along with some progressive Democrats, over Biden’s support for Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which has killed more than 29,000 Palestinians,” reports Al-Jazeera.

The shocking result will fuel fears among Democrats that Biden must be replaced by a better candidate to take on Trump before the July convention.

As we previously highlighted, much of that concern is driven by Biden’s declining cognitive state given that he can barely go a week without embarrassing himself in public.
