During a remarkable Senate hearing Wednesday, Republican Senators wiped the floor with Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, exposing how his company has acted woefully when it comes to child sexual abuse material and other harmful content on its platforms that has directly led to the deaths of children.
By the end of the hearing Zuckerberg was utterly humiliated, forced to stand and face the families of victims who have suffered because of his failures, and told that he should be sued into oblivion for gross dereliction of duty.
During the hearing titled ‘Big Tech and the Online Child Sexual Exploitation Crisis’, Senator Ted Cruz essentially accused Zuckerberg of helping pedophiles gain access to child porn on his platforms.
“Every parent in America is terrified about the garbage that is directed at our kids,” Cruz told Zuckerberg, adding “the phones they have are portals to predators…and each of your companies could do a lot more to prevent it.”
Referring to a recent Wall Street journal investigation, Cruz then noted “What was particularly concerning…was the degree to which Instagram’s own algorithm was promoting the discoverability of victims for pedophiles seeking child abuse material.”
“In other words, this material wasn’t just living on the dark corners of Instagram. Instagram was helping pedophiles find it by promoting graphic hashtags,” Cruz continued.
The Senator then displayed a warning screen that Instagram offers to users who search for such material, admitting that it may be child porn, and then offering them a link to “see results anyway.”
“Mr. Zuckerberg, what the hell were you thinking?” a clearly angry Cruz proffered.
Zuckerberg tried to suggest that a second link on the screen offers resources for people to get help, “I understand ‘get resources,’” Cruz fired back, adding “In what sane universe is there a link to ‘see results anyway’?”
Zuckerberg claimed that the algorithm might get it wrong, so there is a need for the link to “see results anyway.”
Cruz repeatedly pressed Zuckerberg to commit to providing figures on how many times the warning window was offered and how many times “see results anyway” was clicked, but Zuckerberg said he had “no idea,” and refused to comply with the demand, only offering to “follow up” on the matter.
In a further exchange, Senator Josh Hawley asked Zuckerberg “who did you fire for this?”
Zuckerberg again failed to provide an answer, robotically stating “Senator, we studied all of this because it’s important and we want to improve our services.”
“Well, you just told me a second ago that you studied it, but that there’s no linkage. Who did you fire?” Hawley further pressed, adding “Thirty-seven percent of teenage girls between 13 and 15 were exposed to unwanted nudity in a week on Instagram. You knew about it. Who did you fire?”
“I’m not gonna answer that,” Zuckerberg eventually answered.
“Because you didn’t fire anybody, right?” Hawley shot back, adding “You didn’t take any significant action.”
“Senator, I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about, like, any kind of HR decisions,” Zuckerberg responded, prompting Hawley to let loose on him.
“It’s not appropriate? Do you know who’s sitting behind you? You’ve got families from across the nation whose children are either severely harmed or gone, and you don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about steps that you took? The fact that you didn’t fire a single person?”
“Let me ask you this, let me ask you this: Have you compensated any of the victims?” He asked, prompting Zuckerberg to admit he has not, and then to face the families in question and apologise for the “things that your families have suffered.”
Zuckerberg looked utterly destroyed as he continued to pathetically repeat tropes about “building tools” to “keep online communities safe” and the issue being “complicated”.
“Nonsense. Your product is killing people. Will you personally commit to compensating the victims?” Hawley asked, adding “You’re a billionaire. Will you commit to compensating the victims? Will you set up a compensation fund with your money?”
Zuckerberg again failed to commit to any such suggestions.

It’s clear that Zuckerberg and his social media cesspool empire is guilty of not only aiding the ruination of individual lives, but of fundamentally changing our entire world for the worse, all to line their own pockets, by giving tools to the absolute scum of humanity to run rampant without any serious regard for protecting the innocent and benevolent majority.
It is momentarily satisfying to see him slapped down a peg or two, but as sure as the sun rises tomorrow, Zuckerberg will scuttle back to his empire and continue to profit from the harm it spreads until something meaningful is done to change the laws he currently hides behind.

Blaming fuckerberg on this is not the right way, it is the parents that are allowing children have access to the world wide web, remove the smartphones from children and predators can not have access to them.
Children have no business having smartphones and being left to their devices it is nothing but insanity, by giving them a smartphone device, parents might as well be giving them the keys to their car.
Why anyone continues to use these platforms is beyond reason.
