Media tycoon Steve Forbes says the stunning victories of Geert Wilders in the Netherlands and Javier Milei in Argentina indicate that anti-establishment political upsets are becoming the norm.
Wilders stormed to victory over his nearest rivals, lumping on ten percentage points in a week and defying polls which suggested the outcome would be a close four horse race.
The PVV leader ran on a platform of stopping mass migration and opposing globalist technocratic climate change policies that threatened to shut down thousands of Dutch farms.
He is now battling to form a coalition government against the tide of establishment parties who refuse to work with him.
Javier Milei stunned the status quo in Argentina with a comeback victory snatched from the jaws of defeat after losing the first round to leftist Sergio Massa by six percentage points.
Milei was elected on promises of completely eliminating numerous government departments. Although the media smeared him as “far-right,” he’s a self-described anarcho-capitalist libertarian.
According to Steve Forbes, such political outcomes aren’t the exception but are likely to become the norm.
Forbes notes that Wilders was once a “fringe figure,” yet could now become Prime Minister in a turnaround that has “shocked Europe”.
He also notes that Milei was once an “outliner” who upset the odds to claim victory.
“Both elections showed that establishment leaders had disdained the wishes and concerns of their voters—at their peril. The phenomenon is all too common,” writes Forbes.
He highlighted how the establishment in the Netherlands had begun “waging war against farm animals, particularly dairy cows,” in the country that is the second biggest food exporter after the U.S. under the guise of “saving the planet”.
Wilders and Milei may “just be the start” of renegade candidates across the world trouncing the establishment, suggests Forbes.
