It turns out that the boy who was publicly shamed for wearing native American headdress and painting his face red and black for a Kansas City Chiefs game actually has native American ancestry.

As we highlighted yesterday, Carron J. Phillips wrote an entire article for Deadspin complaining about how the NFL needs to “speak out” against the boy, who looked to be about 9 or 10-years-old.
“It takes a lot to disrespect two groups of people at once. But on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, a Kansas City Chiefs fan found a way to hate Black people and the Native Americans at the same time,” wrote Phillips.
It subsequently turned out that the boy hadn’t ‘blacked up’, the other side of his face was painted red, a fact hidden by Phillips’ selective image use.
Despite being caught inventing a hoax to try to ruin the kid’s life, Phillips doubled down on his stupidity, but further revelations have rendered his position even more untenable.
The boy has been identified as Holden Armenta from the Chumash Tribe. In other words, he’s actually a native American.
Well, this is awkward, for Phillips at least.
Innumerable prominent people are now calling for the boy’s family to sue the journalist and Deadspin out of existence.
“Unfortunately, the Chiefs blackface hoax has become the norm for corporate media outlets like Deadspin — which has a history of using sports as a vehicle to engage in left-wing activism,” writes Shawn Fleetwood.
Rumor has it that Chiefs fans are all planning to wear the same costume to show support for Armenta at the next game.
