A new Rasmussen poll has found that two thirds of Americans believe COVID originated in a Wuhan lab, and that they were not surprised that a leaked Department of Energy report also came to the same conclusion.
The Washington Examiner reports:
– On the leak, 67% said they “already believed” it came from “the Wuhan lab,” a claim made in the early days of the crisis by former President Donald Trump but dismissed in the media. Just 20% said they were surprised when an Energy Department and the FBI fingered the lab leak as the likely source of the virus.
– On masks, 49% said that they “already believed” that they didn’t work before the recent reports that masks were ineffective. Some 35% said they were surprised.
– And 65% suspected that U.S. officials were involved in the “cover-up” to hide “China’s role” in the pandemic. House Republicans are looking into ex-virus czar Anthony Fauci’s ties to China and the lab.
– Overall, just 43% gave a good grade to U.S. public health officials for the handling of the virus, while 55% graded them fair to poor, and just 1% were not sure.
Senator Rand Paul accused Anthony Fauci Tuesday of engaging in an “elaborate cover-up” of COVID origins.
“Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins and others orchestrated a cover-up. There are emails between [former National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis] Collins and Dr. Fauci in which Dr. Collins says this wouldn’t be good for China, this wouldn’t be good for science – meaning that it wouldn’t be good for the business of science, for the money that changes hands,” Paul said.
Earlier this week, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, declared that he intends to grill Fauci over what he described as “mad science projects” going on with NIH funding, and a “potential cover up” of the coronavirus lab leak.
“He has a lot of explaining to do, and then we can decide what actions need to be taken going forward,” Comer stated.
Congressman Jim Jordan outlined Sunday how Fauci became aware that the most likely cause of the COVID pandemic was a lab leak and immediately set about changing the narrative to hide his involvement in gain of function research.
