Village of 700 Residents Awaits Decision on Whether It Will Host 1500 Migrants

Expected by next week.

A village in England comprising of just 700 residents is likely to hear by early next week the government’s final decision on whether to house 1500 migrants at a nearby RAF base.

Residents of Linton-on-Ouse have been protesting for weeks over the decision, which will see 1500 ‘asylum seekers’ moved to the new facility as their refugee claims are processed.

Villagers have expressed concerns over crime and anti-social behavior given that virtually all of the ‘refugees’ are young men who will have little to do but wonder the streets.

The basic demographic impact of flooding a village of 700 people with 1500 young men from a totally different culture has also prompted fears that the local area will be completely altered.

The village does not have the services to cope with such an influx, having only one shop and four buses running through it per day.

The proposal was simply announced by the government, with Home Office officials initially making no effort to even liaise with community representatives.

Earlier this month, the government reacted to vehement demonstrations by residents, heightened media attention and a legal challenge by temporarily delaying the program right on the eve of when the first 60 migrants (all men) were set to arrive in the village.

However, now that press scrutiny has died down, the government is set to make a final decision on the matter by early next week.

Hambleton District Council said ministers would finalize their Planning Contravention Notice and Pre-Action Protocol letter plans within days.

“We expect to have received both responses by early next week,” said Councillor Mark Robson.

“At present we continue to understand that no final decision has been taken by Ministers to accommodate asylum seekers at RAF Linton and that we will receive seven days’ notice from the Home Office should they intend to begin moving people onto the site,” he added.

If the government gives the green light for the program to go ahead, the council is expected to mount another legal challenge in an effort to protect residents from a decision that could literally ruin their lives.
