Some young people now apparently think it’s OK to go around slapping anyone when they are annoyed or upset, a la Will Smith at the Oscars. The latest example of this occurred during an International Tennis Federation juniors tournament.
After losing the match, 15-year-old French tennis player Michael Kouame approached the net, seemingly to shake hands with the victor Raphael Nii Ankrah. However, when the winner got there, Kouame slapped him in the face.
All hell then broke loose with a ruckus ensuing.
Watch:
Fox News reported that Kouame apologized on Instagram immediately after the incident, writing “I sincerely regret my actions on Tuesday at the ITF Tournament in Ghana against Raphael Nii Ankrah. I regretfully struck him after an extremely frustrating and intense match.”
He further claimed that “During the course of the match, I was repeatedly verbally abused by a large number of individuals in the crowd, including insults to my mother in particular. However, that does not excuse my behavior.”
“I would like to publicly apologize to Raphael. I was wrong and completely out of line,” the young sportsman further wrote, adding “I accept any consequences as a result of my behavior from the ITF governing body, and will use this time to reflect on how I can better manage challenging situations like these in the future in a manner that accurately reflect my character.”
This is the way it’s going to be now, attacking people in public and then instantly apologising on social media for attention, promising to ‘reflect on my character’ and ‘become a better human’.
This incident reflects so much of the Hollywood influenced, social media driven fake bubble reality that now permeates society.
