In response to the charge that he advocated open borders, 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said social programs could not be funded if America was overwhelmed with immigrants.
The Vermont Senator was responding to a question from a member of the crowd at a campaign event in Oskaloosa, IA.

“If you open the borders, there’s a lot of poverty in this world, and you’re going to have people from all over the world,” said Sanders. “And I don’t think that’s something that we can do at this point. Can’t do it.”
It’s a shame we don’t see similar honesty from many others on the left, who simultaneously hold the contradictory positions of advocating a huge welfare state while inviting in the entirety of the third world.
