CBS News responded to the Russian bombardment of Ukraine by highlighting a little discussed but hugely important issue – how “transgender acceptance” isn’t “widespread” in the country.
Yes, really.
“Transgender acceptance in Ukraine is not widespread, and changing legal documents to match gender requires a long process with psychiatric examinations,” the legacy media outlet reported as Putin’s war machine laid siege to Kharkiv and Kiev.
According to the report, transgenders are fighting a “war within a war.”

The report features an interview with a transgender individual in which he/she/xe says the threat of being bombed is compounded by Ukraine being “not a very rainbow-friendly place.”
“Russia must be defeated so that the progressive Azov Battalion can fly LGBTQ2S+ flags over Kiev!” joked Chris Menahan.
As we previously highlighted, the British Ministry of Defence posted a subsequently deleted tweet on the morning of the Russian invasion bragging about how successful their gay coffee morning had been.
In addition, the head of MI6 – Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service – took to Twitter to assert that one of the biggest aspects of the “tragedy and destruction” unfolding in Ukraine was that LGBT+ rights might be under threat.
This followed a report by the Times which said that British spies had been told to watch their ‘offensive’ language and to check their “white privilege.”
They were also ordered not to use “gendered terms” such as “manpower” and “grip” in order to improve “diversity and inclusion in the security services.”
